From lab to Maker Faire: four prosthetic breakthroughs you could touch

What happens when clinicians, engineers, and makers meet in one buzzing hall? From October 16–20 at Maker Faire Rome, the Centro Protesi Inail team showcased four projects built to make prosthetics feel more natural, more wearable, and more you: HannesArm, the latest evolution of the Hannes hand (used in IntelliMan’s prosthetics case study to support more natural, low-effort control); Omnia, a complete lower-limb prosthesis engineered for stability, comfort, and a smoother gait, both co-developed with IIT in Genoa. Alongside these came OsteoCustom, a patient-tailored pathway to osseointegration for a more direct and comfortable skeletal interface, and D-PULP, an advanced system for designing and refining upper-limb sockets where engineering meets anatomy. Different technologies, one shared goal: turn cutting-edge research into everyday function so people can move, work, and live with fewer problems and more confidence.
