Have you ever wondered, how we can enable amputees control their prostheses? They cannot use touchscreens and joysticks, of course, so we need to guess what they want to do, then have the prosthesis do it. How do I know what you are going to do, in fact? The simple answer is, by decoding your muscle activity.
But the devil is in the details… In this paper, we try and guess an amputee’s intention to move using surface electromyography and a simple machine learning method, but aided by the most important element in the picture: the user!
